Hello all of you beautiful people. Hope y’all are survivin’ in this cruel world.
What a week it has been. Well for me anyways, I’m just getting over COVID. IT… WAS…. NOT…. FUN…. I was thinking to myself constantly how much worse I could have had it, if I wasn’t triple vaccinated, my symptoms were already kinda bad. I couldn’t breathe, so bad I was waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (scary stuff, I know). I was always so sore and so tired. But the most frustrating one was being dazed and confused. It completely handicapped my ability to do literally anything. Now I’m behind on Uni which sucks. But, that’s life for you, you just have to keep dodging the barrels the monkeys throw at you. You know?
Anyways, I haven’t given any content in a while (IM SORRY) so that is what this post is about. So, I’ve finally found a script format I enjoy writing. I never really liked the traditional script like Page 1: Panel 3 blah blah. I find it too constricting and boring in a way, don’t get me wrong, I completely get why people use it, it’s a nice layout. But I’ve dived more into the “Marvel” style script, where you just write the story with the voice of the character (if that makes sense). Because, I’m me, I’ve combined the two. I write the story per page or pages then I write dialogue and SFX (I’ll show it next week!!). So, I’m really happy with the medium I’ve found, and I’m getting a lot done.
However, I can’t choose everything, I am very indecisive. I’ve decided you sexy people can help me out!
NAMES:
I want a unique name for my character (the hero) but I can’t choose;
Xavier
Zephyr
George
Helios (Helix)
Name for his love interest (egyptian)
Ahmed
Asad
Darius
Maus
Soooo what do you think? I’ll give my reasons;
Xavier: I don’t know. It has just been a favourite name of mine. I’ll probably name my son Xavier when I have kids one day. It just sounds cool.
Zephyr: Greek God of wind. Word meaning “West Wind”. Pretty fitting for a character that can control the weather, is it not?
George: Just a generic Greek name that also sounds cool when spoken in Greek and will also name my son George, if I have two.
Helios (Helix): Greek God of the Sun. Also, pretty fitting to the weather prince.
**Please note that this is his ‘earth” name as he is from another planet and his actual name is Esor.
Ahmed: Once again, Just a generic Egyption/Arabic name.
Asad: Arabic word meaning “Lion”
Darius: It is the first name given to an ancient Egyptian pharaoh. It means “he who does good”.
Maus: Is the first domesticated breed of cats to leave Egypt.
There you have it! Please let me know in the comments below which name you think is best, or you can follow me on twitter and let me know!
As a special treat I’ll post one of my process writing pieces. I can’t write a script from start to finish without knowing roughly what’s happening on each page. So, I do kinda a rough layout and go from there. A sentence or two for each page. Now of course, this isn’t the final script and is often changed dramatically when I write the script. So, this is from the first issue.
#001 Welcome Home
The main character Xavier starts off with feeling weird. He knows that something is happening. His black cat also knows that something bad is nearby.
PAGE 1: Xavier is at a fireplace in his house with his cat and talks to himself.
PAGE 2: Butter is also worried about Xavier and tries to comfort him but notices something in his hand.
PAGE 3: It is a small metallic gold lightning bolt. He fumbles with it and walks of panel.
PAGE 4: We see him in his bedroom. He moves a book put from a bookshelf and where the book was is a hollow lightning bolt. He puts it in **Click**.
PAGE 5: The bookshelf sinks into the wall and shifts sideways to disappear. Xavier turns around is in a futuristic looking elevator. Butter jumps into his arms and holds him. The elevator goes down.
PAGE 6: A widespread of so many TVs on some news channels from different countries. A massive keyboard with too many buttons to count. And to the side in a cylindrical tube is a costume*.
PAGE 7: Xavier readies an alert to his companions? Friends? He doesn’t send it out yet. Maybe they won’t come.
PAGE 8: Xavier looks worried. He leaves to go back up.
PAGE 9: Xavier is now at university. His friends are talking to him but he’s not listening. He’s too busy thinking to himself.
PAGE 10: He is still distracted. He reassures his friends a couple of times. They notice his distant personality and question him. He assures them that nothing is wrong.
PAGE 11: Cut immediately to his lair. He’s in workout gear. There’s a target practice. He’s out of practice.
PAGE 12: He talks to his AI (name yet to be determined) (G.U.Y. – Gigabytes that Understands Youth) and he makes the course harder, and he gets better.
PAGE 13: He sits back down sweating and hopes that nothing is coming and maybe its just his powers playing up.
PAGE 14: Red lights are flashing G.U.Y. is talking codes about an UFO
PAGE 15 & 16: Huge splash page of a TV with a UFO** on the screen
PAGE 17: Xavier is walking to school. He can see the UFO in the distance he talks to himself. Maybe they’ll just leave. Maybe the world will send them on their marry way.
PAGE 18: Xavier is at university but there isn’t much learning happening. Everybody is occupied at the UFO that is high up in the sky above the city.
PAGE 19: Xavier’s friends are scared, and they talk to him. He answers, but in between their sentences he thinks to himself. Should he tell them?
PAGE 20: He tells them about him but to keep it a secret.
PAGE 21: He tries his best to convince them without doing too much.
PAGE 22: They hug each other, and he tells them to get home.
PAGE 23: He leaves and goes into a side street. He looks to make sure he’s alone and then…
PAGE 24: KRAKOOM a lightning bolt stakes him and is now wearing his costume.
PAGE 25: He flies and does some damage control. Helping citizens evacuate the area.
PAGE 26: A news helicopter gets too close, and lasers come out of the ufo shooting it down.
PAGE 27: He catches the helicopter. Xavier has had enough. He yells to the ship to get out!
PAGE 28: Two people come out of the ship via a beam to the ground. A short, fat woman. A tall, lanky man. She speaks “hello, brother”.
Like I said this is a VERY ROUGH draft and most things in it isn’t in the final script.
Thanks again to all of you amazing people for reading and I hope to see you all next time!
Stay safe and be kind x.
